‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Shows No Signs of Slowing Down at the Global Box Office
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has crossed $1.5 billion worldwide and is on track to become one of the biggest blockbusters in Tom Holland’s career.
Tom Holland’s latest outing as Spider-Man is turning into a major global box-office phenomenon. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has crossed the $1.5 billion mark worldwide after a powerful second weekend, putting the Marvel-Sony release firmly on course for an even bigger finish.
The film added approximately $381 million globally during its second weekend, including $145 million from the United States and Canada. Its worldwide haul now stands at around $1.67 billion.
The movie’s performance in North America has been particularly striking. After just 10 days in theatres, Brand New Day has collected about $655 million domestically, making it the biggest non-inflation-adjusted film in the history of the US and Canadian box office at the same stage of its theatrical run.
At its current pace, the superhero adventure could become the first movie to cross $1 billion in North America before accounting for inflation. The previous benchmark is held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which finished its domestic run with approximately $936 million.
China has also emerged as an important market for the film. Brand New Day has already earned around $186 million there and is approaching the country's list of the 10 biggest-grossing Hollywood releases. Among post-pandemic Hollywood titles, Avatar: The Way of Water and Zootopia 2 currently occupy notable positions on that list.
India has delivered another major achievement for the film. With roughly $52.8 million, or nearly Rs 497 crore, in gross earnings, Brand New Day has become the highest-grossing Hollywood release ever in the country.
The film is performing strongly across several other international territories as well, including the United Kingdom, Mexico and France, where it has earned approximately $87.4 million, $65.8 million and $49.2 million respectively.
If the momentum continues, the film could cross $2 billion worldwide as early as this week. A lifetime total around $2.5 billion would put it in an elite group alongside global blockbusters such as Avatar and Avengers: Endgame.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day features Holland alongside Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink and Tramell Tillman. The film marks Holland’s fourth solo Spider-Man appearance within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is shaping up to be one of the biggest theatrical successes of his career.
