The pair announced the divorce in a joint statement on Twitter on Wednesday morning. The statement read, “As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends. We’ve had such a great life together as a married couple, and we also see wonderful futures ahead, as parents, friends, partners in ventures and projects, and as individuals pursuing ventures and adventures.” The joint statement does indicate that the couple desires to make the separation amicable and less messy as possible.

MacKenzie Bezos, 48, who is a novelist, published her debut novel, “The Testing of Luther Albright” in 2005. The couple met at D.E. Shaw & Co in Manhattan where MacKenzie was a research associate. In one of her interviews, MacKenzie revealed to Vogue that her first interview at the above-mentioned firm was with her future husband who was a Senior Vice President. The couple who also graduated from the same Princeton University tied the knot in 1993.

MacKenzie said that it was she who took the initiative of winning him over by suggesting a lunch date with him and within three months of dating they were engaged. Three months after that they were man and wife. The novelist explained that both Jeff and she had very different personalities. While he is an extrovert who loves socializing, cocktail parties could be nerve-wracking for her. The couple has four children together; three sons and an adopted daughter from China.
