Awarapan 2 Box Office Day 5: Emraan Hashmi’s Sequel Continues Its Strong Run

Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 is turning out to be a major box-office success, with the film maintaining a strong pace even after its opening weekend. Released in theatres on August 14, the romantic action drama has now crossed the ₹100 crore mark in India within five days.

On its fifth day, the film added approximately ₹9.75 crore to its domestic net total. This took its India net collection to around ₹100.75 crore, while its India gross stood at approximately ₹120.33 crore. The film also continued to perform overseas, adding about ₹2 crore on Day 5 and taking its worldwide gross to roughly ₹144.13 crore.

The milestone is particularly significant for Emraan Hashmi. Awarapan 2 has become his first solo-led film to enter the ₹100 crore club, giving the actor one of the biggest commercial successes of his career. The sequel has also emerged as his highest-grossing solo film, surpassing the performance of his earlier releases.

The film's momentum was established during its opening weekend. After a solid start, Awarapan 2 recorded substantial growth over the weekend and had already crossed ₹120 crore worldwide by the end of its third day. It subsequently held reasonably well on Monday before crossing the ₹100 crore domestic net milestone on Tuesday.

The success is also notable because the original Awarapan, released in 2007, did not enjoy a strong theatrical run despite eventually developing a cult following. Nearly two decades later, the sequel has managed to convert that nostalgia into substantial box-office numbers, with Hashmi returning as Shivam Pandit.

The story follows Shivam Pandit, a troubled and emotionally scarred man whose life becomes entangled with love, betrayal, violence and redemption. Like the first film, it blends a dark action story with an intense romantic angle, with the protagonist struggling between his violent past and his desire for love and a better life.

Hashmi’s growing popularity also shows how much he has evolved from the image that defined his early years in Bollywood. Once widely known for romantic films, and the casanova image, he has gradually carved out a more versatile space for himself with intense, darker and performance-driven roles.

His strong connection with Bollywood music has also remained a key part of his appeal. With Awarapan 2 bringing back the emotional feel and musical nostalgia associated with his earlier films, Hashmi is once again reconnecting with longtime fans while attracting a new generation of viewers.
