China’s Huawei Beats Apple in the Smartphone Sale Race

In the last quarter, the Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has sold around 54 million phones which is 40% high compared to the same period last year. This proves it not only beats Apple but is also close to the market leader Samsung, which has sold 70 million phones in the last quarter and is down by 10% if compared to last year.

The research was conducted by three different research firms Canalys, IHS Markit and IDC. In spite of being locked out of the world biggest economy, the brand Huawei has made its presence felt across the world. IDC analyst Ryan Reith said in a statement, “The continued growth of Huawei is impressive, to say the least, as is its ability to move into markets where, until recently, the brand was largely unknown”.

Huawei, the Chinese Smartphone and equipment maker has to struggle hard to hold its foot in the US, because of the security reason it is often targeted, as the US always accused, its technology may be utilized by the Chinese officials in order to gather intelligence.

Though Huawei has time and again denied such a threat from its product, last year it received a major shock when the US telecom company AT&T pulled out of a last-minute agreement.

Following the United States, the security officials in Australia, UK, and Canada have also warned its people against using Huawei’s phones citing national security risks.

An analyst representing research firm Canalys, Mo Jia said, “Despite its failure to strike a US carrier partnership, the company has turned around quickly, moving away from its drive for profitability and focusing instead on finding volume growth at the low end”.

Huawei sells phones at a very cheap rate and it has worked well in the Asia Pacific region, where the record sale of the phone is observed with more than double, compared to the last year sales. The telecom company has also experienced strong growth in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.

Apart from selling phones at cheap rates, Huawei is adding more unique features in its smartphones. As for example, the company added three cameras on its P20 Pro device. According to Gerrit Schneemann, Research Analyst Smartphone at IHS Markit, “these unique features are helping Huawei in increasing its brand recognition in Europe and Asia and allowing the company to challenge the likes of Samsung in many price tiers”.

Huawei is also among the several telecom companies of the world who are racing to develop the 5G, the next generation of wireless technology and to become a global leader in 5G technology, in spite of refusal and ban from world’s top telecom giants.
