Holi 2019 Skin Care Tips: How to Protect Yourself from Harsh Colours

When Spring is here can Holi be far behind? The Spring season is definitely the time to rejoice, feel vibrant and get playful with each other! But not at the cost of skin rashes or allergies. So rather than stying away from Holi colours, know, how you can protect your skin from its harshness.

Be it in powder or the sprightly colours in liquid, all of them are heavily equipped with harmful chemicals which can make your skin dry, patchy, cause rashes or lead to unwanted pimples. It is not so uncommon when people say, ‘I’ve been playing with since a very young age and nothing happened ever! Don’t be ridiculous!’. Well, neither the speaker is wrong and nor are you. Every skin is different. Some are blessed with flawlessness, some are born with highly sensitive skin. Therefore here are your skin care tips:

1.If possible, try to apply vaseline, any moisturising lotion, olive or coconut oil before you indulge in the colour play. The oil will not allow the colour to sit on your skin and protect it from having direct contact.

2. You can also consider your sunscreen. Wear it before you go out playing, and it can form a shield protecting your skin from the sun rays. If your sunscreen is oil-based it can work as an alternative to the oils.

3. During washing off the colours, do not be too harsh on your skin. Don’t expect to get rid of the colours in a single wash, it goes off in due time. You can use a good scrub, but be gentle while rubbing.

4. After cleansing your skin use a good moisturizing lotion to let your skin have the lost moisture. Artificial colours tend to turn the skin dry, applying lotion after every bath will keep skin soft, moist and help you to get you synthetic colour-free skin, faster.

5. These days experts are asking Holi enthusiasts to ditch the chemical filled colours and use natural stuff. Homemade colours like ‘besan’ can replace the yellow you use, and besan is very good to skin. Organic colours made from flowers are suggested by skin specialists as well, and are easily available in the market.
