Iran Mocks Trump over Secret Aircraft Switch amid Reported Missile Threat

Iranian state media and the Iranian Embassy in South Africa have mocked US President Donald Trump after reports that the Secret Service secretly moved him from Air Force One to a smaller military aircraft during his visit to Turkey because of a credible missile threat.

An Iranian state-television presenter described the aircraft switch as a sign that Trump had been frightened by Iran's military power.

The Iranian Embassy in South Africa also joined the mockery, posting memes depicting Trump hiding inside a catering box. One post included the line, “He will be hidden in a trash can before long.”

Iranian media presented the episode as embarrassing for Trump, contrasting his public image as a powerful and confident leader with the secrecy surrounding the reported security operation.

The reaction comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with both countries involved in an escalating military confrontation.

Why Was Trump Moved to Another Aircraft?

According to reports, a shoulder-fired missile threat emerged during Trump's departure from Ankara on July 8, the final day of his Turkey visit.

US security officials reportedly assessed the threat as credible and imminent. The Secret Service subsequently took steps to conceal Trump's movements and reduce the risk to the president.

Trump and a small group of aides were reportedly moved from the familiar blue-and-white presidential aircraft to a smaller, relatively nondescript C-32A military jet.

The transfer was reportedly carried out using an airport catering truck, allowing Trump to leave the main aircraft without drawing attention.

Meanwhile, the main Air Force One aircraft departed separately carrying senior officials, White House staff and members of the travelling press corps. The aircraft therefore also served as a potential decoy, maintaining the appearance that Trump remained aboard.

Trump later confirmed that the Secret Service had ordered the aircraft switch.

The Iranian reaction comes as tensions between Tehran and Washington remain extremely high. The reported security threat also highlights the difficulties involved in protecting senior US officials amid the ongoing conflict.
