J K Rowling Reveals That She is a Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Survivor

British author J K Rowling on Wednesday revealed that she was a victim of domestic abuse and sexual assault in a lengthy blog post.

She explained that even though she has been in the public eye for more than 20 years she never revealed this side of her story not because she was ashamed of what happened to her but because revisiting and remembering the past was painful.

“I've only mentioned my past because, like every other human being on this planet, I have a complex backstory, which shapes my fears, my interests and my opinions.”

Rowling has been receiving backlash for her opinions and past comments on transgender women. She even came under public scrutiny when she openly supported an employee Maya who was sacked by her employer for her transphobic tweets.

After her support of Maya, she explained that she received threats from trans activists on her twitter timeline. She claims that many women are terrified of trans activists.

She can say this confidently because she’s connected with these women on a personal level. She also asserted on the fact that she has the right to speak freely on a subject that she has always reflected upon.

Rowling has revealed that she struggled with her own gender identity in her growing years which resulted in her thinking about trans issues.

“When I read about the theory of gender identity, I remember how mentally sexless I felt in youth,” she wrote. She explained that she had mixed thoughts on her being a woman she however got through this period by turning to books and music.

“I want to be very clear here: I know transition will be a solution for some gender dysphoric people, although I'm also aware through extensive research that studies have consistently shown that between 60-90 percent of gender dysphoric teens will grow out of their dysphoria,” she said.

“So I want trans women to be safe. At the same time, I do not want to make... girls and women less safe”, she added.
