LG Announces Launch of Home Speaker ThinQ in January 2018, a Premium AI Speaker Powered by Google Assistant

Are you planning to pick up an intelligent speaker for your smart home? Please don’t miss to add LG ThinQ Speaker in your checklist. On December 27, 2017, electronic hotshot LG announced its full 2018 audio series of products, featuring a Dolby Atmos-enabled soundbar, a premium Artificial Intelligent speaker enabled with Google Assistant, and a line of life-proof, portable speakers built to withstand the elements.

The new ThinQ Speaker will be fully revealed at CES 2018, which begins in the second week of January. LG is promising a premium sounding speaker with support for lossless high-resolution audio. It’s also designed to be a voice activated hub for LG’s smart electronics and appliances.

The LG ThinQ Speaker comes with in-built Google Assistant, so you can use your voice to inquire about the weather, control your pet’s smart feeder, and manage other smart home appliances, among other things. LG is pushing the speaker as an accessory built to interface directly with its other SmartThinQ products, which range from refrigerators to air purifiers to vacuum cleaners to washing machines to smart lamps and other home appliances . We don’t yet know what sort of specification or pricing to expect, even the release date is not yet known. The ThinQ Speaker could be a competitor for the Amazon Echo around USD 100, or more of a high-end solution in the USD 200 range, depending upon sound quality.

The ThinQ is empowered with LG SK10Y Soundbar which delivers 550 watts of output, supporting 5.1.2 channels and Dolby Atmos surround sound for maximum immersion while you’re watching your favorite movies or music videos or television shows at home. The SK10Y is outfitted with two ceiling-firing speakers to enhance the sensation of being “encompassed with sound,” and it has even got baked-in voice support, so you can say “OK, Google talk to LG” or request a particular song or radio station. Like most LG soundbars, the SK10Y boasts a sharp, contemporary form factor that looks slick and fits comfortably below most LG televisions.

LG also announced the PK portable speaker series, featuring “mood lighting” and powerful bass response in compact packages. The PK speakers are compatible with aptX HD Bluetooth to stream 24-bit music wirelessly, and they’ve got a preset equalizer which optimizes speech and vocals for clear listening.

Both the SK10Y and the PK speakers utilize proprietary technologies from Meridian Audio. Meridian’s Bass and Space technology improves sound quality, giving listeners an enriched and warm sound signature, and the Height Elevation technology improves speech clarity while actually making soundbar audio seem like it’s coming from the TV screen itself.

All of LG’s 2018 audio products will be on display from January 9-12 at CES 2018, located at the LG booth in the Las Vegas Convention Center (Booth #11100, Central Hall). So if you have plans of being in Las Vegas in January second week, you will have it all.
