Rose McGowan, Prime Accuser of Harvey Weinstein Will Be Tried for Possessing Cocaine

Actress and activist Rose McGowan who is also one of the prime accusers of Harvey Weinstein is accused on one felony count of cocaine possession by a Grand Jury. The actress was arrested last November 2017 after belongings left behind by her on a flight that was arriving in Dulles airport on January 20, 2017, was found to possess illegal drugs. She flew in to attend the Women’s March in Washington that day.

The warrant for her arrest was issued in February 2017. “Rose steadfastly maintains her innocence,” McGowan’s attorney, Jose Baez said. He addedThese charges would have never been brought if it weren’t for her activism as a voice for women everywhere. I assure you, this selective prosecution will be met with a strong defense.”

McGowan who was the pioneer for the #MeToo movement has suggested that the drugs might have been planted in her baggage at the behest of producer Harvey Weinstein. Just months earlier, before getting arrested, McGowan had given subtle hints at being raped by the Hollywood Mogul. McGowan was among the first women to accuse Weinstein of his sexual crimes. The actress told, cocaine was the last thing she would think about while attending a Women’s March. “Imagining I’m going into sisterly solidarity, I can think of nothing more opposed to that, energetically, that I would want in my body at that moment,” she told Farrow- a reporter at the New Yorker.

Another important point that she brought up during the interview was she lost her wallet en route to the March that suggests that it gave a time frame for someone to plant the drug. That said it is not yet confirmed where the wallet was lost. Weinstein’s lawyer, however, termed McGowan’s allegation a “ludicrous claim.” Weinstein who has been charged with the criminal sex act, sexual abuse and sexual misconduct, has pleaded not guilty. He has denied all the accusations and he has maintained that his relationships were consensual.

The ‘Charmed’ actress will be tried on January 15 in London County, Virginia and if she’s found guilty she could serve up to ten years behind bars.
