The debate is on high as millennials are erasing the line between professional and personal interactions. Let’s have a look over the expert opinions.

Should Dating Apps be Used for Business Purposes and Vice Versa?

Did you just swipe right? What is the real reason behind it? Can dating apps be used to have some professional aid? The answers are not just given below but explained. Read till the end and know the reality of apps.

The millennials are a generation with a bright mind and a reaper of opportunities from all ends. Researchers have found that the extensive knack of this generation is being on dating apps and being active with some professional business with the community they are growing there. There have been questions about this way of deletion of that line that demarcates personal and professional interactions. Some are promoting such sites and experts are saying that they are simply trying to attract the very much active traffic on these dating apps. Not just finding love, these dating apps are being used to find jobs as well. From the POV of the millennials, they are just being smart with their time and options.

The authorities of the dating apps say that this is absolutely fine and the tendency of the youth to use the apps this way is very much normal. The various types of people here developing a professional connection out of the apps, is very convenient. The authorities say that the way of reaching out to people is very easy on these apps and thus it is used in such a manner.

Where is the problem

Experts say that it is true that everything is now on social media. But there is a slight difference between the streams and the audience and the general mindset people are having while using such apps. The streams are different. For e.g. a person when focuses on his/her LinkedIn profile is not having the mindset to meet people they want to date with. The same way a person using Tinder is having completely different feelings and emotions that are too personal and getting a professional link might hurt their interest.

Experts say that the risk is high when you are using a professional space for personal use. An inappropriate comment might get you blacklisted or lose a job in the worst scenarios. Your professional profile gets a backlash due to personal indulgences.

A few years back there was a similar incident on a LinkedIn profile, though the results were not adverse. Alexander Carter, a thirty-year-old attorney shared a few messages with Charlotte Proudman who was his junior. Charlotte revealed those messages stating that Alexander had been flirting with her. Alexander mentioned that he complimented her image by saying it was stunning and said she was making a big deal out of a few kind words. But the matter of concern was how the professional connection is turning out. In a study, it has been found that most of the #MeToo stories involved romantic relationships in the earlier stage that later transformed into bitter endings. Megan Bruneau, the therapist, and life coach says that mixing work and relations have several risks as well as positive outcomes. The intention should be clear from both sides, made sure that the personal relationship is not leading to professional awkwardness. Having an intimate relationship with a subordinate is not a very good idea even if you get connected with him or her through dating apps. A counselor of an institute said that she had found men who have got wrong motives and is using the professional platform as an easy way to advance. The initial step remained to ask about the services, wish to get verified and asking for personal details. The men later confirmed that they were not at all interested in taking up the service. Experts suggest that rather than wasting time over this professional space, it’s better to shift to dating apps as the chances are high to get the required attention there and the ways to make advances are much easier as the people using those apps are having the same intent.

The debate continues

There are various debates on this topic as there are people who are questioning the reason to avoid a feeling on the basis of the medium that brought two people together. The other half disagrees on the matter and says a romantic relationship in a professional setting might make the people uncomfortable. Especially if the intention is to approach for a romantic relationship for bagging a decent job, the ends do not meet a smooth horizon.

The question is rising on the gray area that is slowly diminishing in case of such debates. The supporters say that drawing lines are easy and it’s more like forcing the people to react and act as per the norms of the social places. In cases of building connections in dating apps, the flings turn into sources of freelance work. The youth believes that this is their ability to share benefits with the person they feel connected to.

The role of app developers

The app developers are rethinking this idea and are bringing several twists to their existing business plans. As per reports, they have found that some of the users are hacking to connect people of business benefits. Messages are being shared where they state that need professional help. If the interest of the matches is similar, they get connected forming what you call “business relationships”. The Tinder team has worked on this sharing of a platform for both personal and professional usage and with that idea, they have started another similar professional networking platform called Ripple.

As per the reports of the last week, Bumble has reached a mark with registrations as the number is somewhat around 36 million. Promotions are very much popular in the dating apps. There have been reports of people spending around an hour to connect with people that will help them in the promotion. There is evidence of people building relationships at a level that is helping them with long-term goals. People are meeting business advisors on these dating apps and one of them said that being a business owner, she has got to meet some interesting people there and two of them have joined her, they often meet as a trio to discuss business over dinner.

Some experts say that such kinds of relationships are possible when both sides are going on the same track. The app experts say that these apps are doing the task of matching interests very well and so this is helping in bringing like-minded people together. Relationship experts say that for emotional relationships matching interest is not enough and there are many more criterions that make a strong emotional relationship. For business relations, the equations are comparatively less complex and so business relationships are growing effectively here.

Users take the final call

The debate is not going to end soon especially when there are many people who are ready to share a single platform for both personal and business relationships. At the end of the day, it’s all about audience acceptance. True, there is a clear divide in the audience but the decisions are again only in the hands of the users. Let us know what you think about these intermingling of personal and business area and share your insights and experiences.
