This year will witness four eclipses, among which two will be solar eclipses. The solar eclipse, also known as Rare Hybrid Surya Grahan, is one of the most significant celestial events. An eclipse is a phenomenon in which the sun is blocked by the moon, i.e. a solar eclipse, and the Earth's shadow obscures the moon in a lunar eclipse. The first solar eclipse of 2023 will occur on April 20.

In the year 2023, there will be four eclipses, two of which will be solar eclipses. The solar eclipse or the Rare Hybrid Surya Grahan is one of the most significant celestial events as it involves the alignment of the sun and the moon, i.e. in a solar eclipse, the moon’s shadow is completely cast on the earth.

There are four different types of solar eclipses, they are:

  • Hybrid eclipse

Australia, the Pacific Ocean, East and South Asia, Antarctica, and the Indian Ocean will witness the solar eclipse.

Will a solar eclipse be visible from India?

The first solar eclipse of the year 2023 will not be visible in India. But certain points in the Indian Ocean region such as Australia, east and south Asia, Antarctica, and the Indian Ocean will be able to see the eclipse.

How to watch a solar eclipse?

One option is to watch the eclipse with a telescope to view the Sun or project an image of the Sun on a white background. 

Solar Eclipse 2023: When will it reach the maximum point?

The solar eclipse is likely to reach to the maximum point by 9:46:53 am on April 20, 2023. During maximum eclipse period, the Moon will fully cover the Sun from the view of observers at the center of the eclipse path on Earth. This results in temporary darkening of the sky. Since is an annular solar eclipse, a bright ring or annulus of sunlight will still be seen around the darkened Moon, creating a 'ring of fire' effect.

What is a hybrid solar eclipse? Why is it rare?

As the name suggest, a hybrid solar eclipse is a mix of both an annular solar eclipse and a total solar eclipse. A hybrid solar eclipse occurs when the Moon's size and distance from Earth are such that it appears slightly smaller than the Sun, creating an annular eclipse at certain points along the eclipse path, and larger than the Sun, creating a total eclipse at other points along the same path.
