The ‘Skipping Sikh’ Has Turned to Skipping to Stay Active, Inspire and Raise Money During the Epidemic

Rajinder Singh has been dubbed as the “skipping Sikh” as he’s found a way out to remain healthy during the lockdown in Britain. It is through skipping.
The 73-year-old used to actively participate in the weekly Park Run which is a five-kilometer run every Saturday. Now, with no other means to exercise during the lockdown, Singh has turned to skip.
Singh who stays in Berkshire in southern England revealed that five-minute skipping is like running three kilometers. “You don’t even need trainers, just a rope”, he said. Simply skipping at home or in your garden will suffice.

During the lockdown, he’s taken the initiative to inspire people of all faiths and communities to remain fit by posting regular videos of his workout on social media. Besides inspiring people another reason for this initiative is that he loves to help people.
“As long as I can help this country or other people, I will carry on. That is my principle. I love doing this kind of thing, helping and volunteering, this is in my blood,” he said.

Another prime reason for posting his workout videos is to stay connected with his family and friends. The lockdown has forced Gurudwaras in the city to be closed thereby isolating the Sikh community. These videos help him to connect with people from his community.
Along with his daughter, he’s set up a fundraising initiative to raise money for the British National Health Service (NHS). He requests all his followers to “stay home, do exercise, eat sensibly and don’t get upset.”
