‘A Christmas Carol’ on BBC: A Special Fantastically Eerie Surprise for You

Ho Ho Ho! You better be ready for your Christmas present, for this year it’s arriving early and it’s going to be a long, long journey. BBC One brings you ‘A Christmas Carol’, in the form of a miniseries, premiering in the US, tomorrow… yes you read that right!

Charles Dickens’ classic novella has been adapted by BBC One, and this one, come with an in-depth focus on its central character Ebenezer Scrooge’s childhood, which Dickens himself avoided digging into.

According to its screenwriter Stephen Knight, who also happens to be the writer of ‘Peaky Blinders’, “At the time Dickens was writing, it wasn’t an obligation on the part of the writer to necessarily ask the question: why is this character like this? But now we’re post-post-post-post-Freud, it is.”

Stephen further added, this post-Freudian take has been approached with great reverence. The style of adaptation varies with generations, it doesn’t mean any sort vandalism to the institution.

Now, this character of Ebenezer Scrooge developed by Dickens’ in his 1843 novella is of an old,  shrewd miser who hates Christmas. However, by the end of the novel, the ghosts of Christmas managed to transform this cold-hearted loner to a much warmer human being.

The cast of ‘A Christmas Carol’ include Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, Andy Serkis, Stephen Graham amongst others.

The miniseries will be aired in 3 episodes, the first two of which will be coming up on BBC One & FX, December 19 and in the UK between December 22 and 24.
