#JokerStairs Becomes Tourist Hub after Iconic Dance Scene in ‘Joker’

‘Joker’ has turned out to be the movie of the year! Joaquin Phoenix as Joker has garnered immense recognition for his portrayal of a mentally ill stand up comedian who is shunned by society. The series of abuse transforms Arthur Fleck into a complex and nihilistic individual who develops an emotional disorder often bursting into bouts of psychotic laughter.

The #JokerStairs connects Shakespeare and Anderson Avenues at West 167th street in Bronx. It is ironical that even though the stairs lead to important places like the Yankee stadium, the Bronx Zoo and the New York botanical garden it never really was famous. High crime rate being one of the reasons although the crime rate has decreased now.
After the release of ‘Joker’, tourists are thronging to the spot in large numbers after they identified the spot. The release of the high grossing movie has changed the fortune of this “famed” path of stairs.
What’s interesting is that people especially youngsters are thronging to the same spot and clicking pictures in their own unique style mostly imitating the ‘Joker’ himself and posting it on social media. Some of them did a rendition of ‘Joker.’
The pictures have turned out to be creatively infused with energy, we must say.

Despite the increasing popularity of #JokerStairs, the locals of Bronx are frustrated due to the high influx of tourists. It’s causing inconvenience to those who have to use the path to get to work. A flyer near the stairs reads, “It is disrespectful to treat our community and residents as a photo opportunity for your social media or 'it' moment. This is real life, not a movie and we're not jokin'.” While there are others who believe that the popularity of the steps may help in cleaning up the flights of stairs and the maintenance of the locality as a whole. They see the trend as a positive sign!
