Amid the persistent deluge affecting parts of Uttar Pradesh, one police officer’s unusual expression of reverence has caught the attention of millions. Sub-inspector Chandradeep Nishad, stationed in Prayagraj, has become an internet phenomenon after sharing evocative videos of himself engaging with the floodwaters that surged into his residence. Rather than despair, Nishad welcomed the Ganga’s inundation with open arms, referring to the sacred river as a divine guest.
In a captivating visual, the officer is seen clad in uniform, performing a traditional puja within his submerged home. With folded hands, he offers and chants, “Jai Ganga Maiya ki! Main dhann hogya maa aap mere darwaaze pe dastak dene aayi.” The video, charged with both spiritual zeal and stoic humor, has amassed nearly 38 million views—transforming him into an online iconoclast.
“Mother Ganga arrived at our house while leaving for duty this morning. Got blessings by worshipping Maa Ganga at my doorstep. Hail Mother Ganga,” read the caption of his post, blurring the line between religious devotion and surreal reality.
In a follow-up video, he stands waist-deep in water, reflecting: “Thousands go to her. I didn’t have to go anywhere, she came to bless me.” In another audacious clip, Nishad leaps from his first-floor window into the water, demonstrating both courage and spontaneity. He even warns viewers not to imitate his actions—although his aquabatic stunts continue to draw admiration and concern alike.
In yet another segment, he dives from the second floor alongside two young women, captioning it: "Humari chhoriyan chhoro see kamm hai ke? Jai Ganga Maiya.” His remark, inspired by feminist defiance, adds another layer to his viral persona.
According to his Instagram bio, Nishad is a national-level swimmer and currently serves as a personal security officer at the Allahabad High Court. While many laud his buoyant spirit, others have been more trenchant in their critiques.
“India is the only country that celebrates rivers by creating more water pollution!... Treat them like rivers,” wrote one user, expressing eco-angst. Another urged, “Please, please don’t be an add-on. It’s already polluted enough.”
