‘Shikara’ Trailer: Vidhu Vinod Chopra Makes Film on His Parents Projecting Exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, Watch Real Footage

‘Shikara’ trailer is released, and let’s watch it first before we go into the real story:

Directed, edited and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the film is based on true events as it claims, and the protagonist couple up there are none other than a reflection of Chopra’s own parents.

The film delves into the unfortunate lives of Kashmiri Pandits who turned refugees overnight in their own country, out of sheer compulsion. ‘Shikara’ brings in focus the agonising journey of couple, who were forced to leave their own house behind towards an unknown destination, ruthlessly drifted apart from their roots, with little to nothing for survival.

An episode that took place in 1990 appears on screen fictionalised created after real life occurrences and characters, after 30 long years.

Interestingly, the Shanti Dhar from ‘Shikara’ shares the same name with V C Chopra’s mother, known as Shanti Devi Chopra.

Another short film, that Chopra shot in the year 2000 shows his mother visiting their home in Kashmir along with her granddaughter. Entitled ‘Shikara: Tribute to a Mother’ is an emotionally touching portrayal unfolding the bond between Shanti Devi and her native land.

It is to be noted, that Chopra had earlier made a film involving Kashmiri issues, ‘Mission Kashmir’(2000) that successfully won the hearts of Indian audiences.

‘Shikara’ happens to be a romantic period drama that casts Aadil Khan as Shiv Kumar Dhar and Sadia as Shanti Dhar. Music is by A R Rahman. The film releases on 7th February, 2020.
