‘The Last Days of Marilyn Monroe’ Reveals the Icon’s Life in Her Last Months

A new drama series unfolding the last six months of legendary icon Marilyn Monroe’s life is in the works by BBC Studios. The series will explore the popular star’s life from all angles. Her relationship with Hollywood Studios, her relationship with public personalities such as John F Kennedy will also be touched upon.

The working title of the series is called, “The Last Days of Marilyn Monroe” and it is partly based on Keith Badman’s book “The Final Years of Marilyn Monroe: The Shocking True Story.” The team behind the series is writer Dan Sefton and producer Simon Lupton of ‘Seven Seas Films.’

Dan Sefton is extremely thrilled to bring Marilyn’s true story on screens. “Marilyn’s desire to be taken seriously as an actress and her battle with powerful men who control the studio system is sadly as relevant today as it ever was,” Dan Sefton said.

BBC Studios executive producer Anne Pivcevic said that the series would cover significant topics like love, power, loyalty, and politics. She added, “In the last few months of her life, Marilyn was sincerely loved, callously betrayed, cynically filled with hope and ultimately cruelly abandoned. Her death changed the lives of everyone in her orbit and cemented her status as a legend.”

Just like Keith Badman’s book, Monroe’s life will be observed through various lenses. The singer’s personal life that was seriously scrutinized will be shown. Her controversial relationships with public figures like John F Kennedy, American Baseball Player Joe DiMaggio and rat pack member Peter Lawford will be surfaced. Most importantly, the upcoming series will cover an important angle of her life which was- the delay in reporting her death when she overdosed herself with sleeping pills. She died in August 1962 at the age of 36.

Marilyn who was born as Norma Jeane Mortenson transformed herself into one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s after experiencing an unstable childhood spent in numerous foster homes. Her charming personality which was a mix of glamour and innocence became synonymous with that period’s representation of sexuality. Monroe took up numerous comic roles and eventually evolved as an actress with intensity.

She took up varied roles during her tenure in the film industry. In one of her first movies- ‘Niagara’ she plays a femme fatale scheming to kill her husband and in ‘Don’t Bother to Knock’ she plays a mentally disturbed baby sitter. The actress and singer appeared in several other movies like, ‘The Seven Year Itch’, ‘Clash by Night’, ‘Bus Stop’, ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’, ‘Monkey Business’ and so on.

The actress was disappointed though when she was typecast and underpaid in the studio. Eventually, Fox awarded her a new contract through which she got her salary hiked and became one of the most popular actors of Hollywood till date. Sadly, more than the actress’ professional life it was her private life that received attention. The series based on the life of an unforgettable icon who remains an original is something to look forward to. It still remains a mystery though as to who would play Marilyn Monroe in the upcoming series.
