10,000 Camels Will Be Killed in Australia for Drinking Too Much Water

The wild bushfires of Australia have ravaged every region of the Island especially the states of New South Wales and Victoria. Climatic conditions like drought and high temperatures are attributed to the catastrophic conditions. That said, some officials say that certain people have caused these bushfires themselves. They have intentionally started bushfires in the state of New South Wales and the NSW police have taken action against 183 individuals, 40 of whom are juveniles. 

The Australian authorities are taking another step to control the damage. They will begin a five-day campaign to kill thousands of camels in the country as they are drinking too much water. 

Aboriginal officials in the sparsely populated region of South Australia province said that the camels are endangering the locals as the quantity of water being consumed by them is high. 

The campaign will begin this Wednesday in which approximately 10,000 camels will be killed. 

Marita Baker, an Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (large sparse populated local government area for Aboriginal Australians) executive member explained that the camels were causing problems in her community. 

“We have been stuck in stinking hot and uncomfortable conditions, feeling unwell, because the camels are coming in and knocking down fences, getting in around the houses and trying to get to water through air conditioners,” she said.

The Department for Environment and Water told CBS news that the camels are thronging to water resources like taps and tanks in the community. The animals that die contaminate the water resources causing high risk to locals staying in the area. 

According to The Australian, professional shooters will shoot the animals from a helicopter. Some of the animals will be left where they are killed while the others would be buried or burnt.
