Fatima Negrini an Italian centenarian becomes one of the oldest people in the world to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. She had earlier been the victim of the coronavirus infection however she recovered.
The 108-year-old lady received the jab on Monday morning along with other senior citizens residing in the Anni Azzurri San Faustino care home in Milan.
Fatima will turn 109 on June 3. When she recovered from the Coronavirus infection she was quoted by the Corriere Della Sera newspaper saying: “God forgot about me.” Negrini was born two years before the First World War began.
“The arrival of the vaccine for her and all guests and staff represents a moment of great happiness and a first step towards a return to peaceful everyday life inside the facility,” said Matteo Tessarollo.
A 90-year-old Holocaust survivor Sami Modiano also received the Covid-19 vaccine on Monday according to the regional president and leader of the centre-left Democratic Party Nicola Zingaretti.
Nicola Zingaretti posted the picture of Sami receiving the jab on Twitter and wrote, “An image of trust and hope for everybody.”
Italy began coronavirus vaccines on December 27 and has inoculated 1.15 million people since. Italy ranks third in the world after the USA and the UK, in giving the most number of covid-19 vaccines to its citizens. The number of cases has reduced drastically in the country. The tally of new infections has fallen from 12,545 to 8,824 cases.
