15 Year Old Student Shoots 3 and Injures 8 in Michigan School

A 15 year old student killed 3 students and injured 8 in the US state of Michigan. A teacher was also injured in the shooting.

Allegedly the suspect used his father’s gun which he bought on Friday.

Police sources say that the suspect carried the handgun in a backpack and was spotted emerging out of the bathroom with the gun.

Students hid under desks when the shooting took place. Some students had to climb out of their windows and run across the snow for safety.

Police were notified about the shooting at the school in Oxford, North of Detroit, at 12:51 local time (17:51GMT).

Five minutes after the suspect was confronted by the police in the school corridor, the teenager surrendered to the police. The handgun still had seven rounds of ammunition at that time.

The name of students who were victims in the attack was Tate Myre, 16, Madisyn Baldwin, 17, and Hana St Juliana, 14 according to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. Tate Myre died in the local deputy’s car before he could reach the hospital.

Seven students were shot and three of them are said to be in a critical condition. A 14-year-old boy is in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the jaw and head, Bouchard said. Another girl is said to be on ventilator after the surgery.

The teacher who received a graze wound on the shoulder has been discharged from the hospital.

President Joe Biden spoke about the shooting during a visit to Minneapolis, Minnesota. “My heart goes out to the families enduring the unimaginable grief of losing a loved one,” he said.

“I think this is every parent's worst nightmare," said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who added that shootings at schools are “a uniquely American problem that we need to address.”

A police officer said that the teenager had been told by his parents not to speak to the police and officers were searching their home. He is currently in police custody at Oakland County Children's Village -- a juvenile detention facility
