A child of 2 years old shot his Mother’s boyfriend after he found the unattended firearm. According to sources, the man is in critical condition and is currently admitted to hospital. The incident took place in Chesterfield County on 19th August. Police responded to a call at around 10 in the morning stating fire shots from Block 4400 of Butler Lane.
Upon arrival, police found the victim lying on the floor with wounds from a gunshot. He was rushed to the hospital in a chopper to provide fast and effective treatment.
''It appears that the following events occurred: The victim was preparing to leave the house and had placed his handgun on a nearby chair when a child, who is nearly 3 years old, retrieved the gun. The child accidentally discharged the firearm, shooting the victim. The child was not injured and no one else in the house was injured. Again, the investigation is ongoing,'' reported police from the Chesterfield country
One of the neighbors claimed to have heard the gunshots and also seen the accused after the noise. She said "After I went into the house, he was sitting there like a normal kid. It's not like, you know, he's worried, or, you know, anything like that. He still has a smile,"
While the other neighbors commended the speedy recovery, this also highlights the safety measures that one must follow when handling a gun.
