200 Passengers Stranded in Turkey as Mumbai-Bound Flight Declares Emergency

A flight operated by Virgin Atlantic Airways made an emergency landing at Diyarbakir International Airport, leaving close to 200 passengers stranded at the airport. According to the sources, the stranded passengers had to wait for more than 16 hours, keeping them in awe. The flight was claimed to be unsuitable to fly, and the passengers were informed that a technical glitch in the aircraft led to the emergency landing.

“An emergency landing was made as one passenger had a panic attack. The airport in Turkey is not efficient enough to handle the aircraft,” claimed a passenger from the flight. The passengers were not given any update about the flight, and neither the airline offer any alternative option for which the passengers were left wondering of the way back to the destination.

“We have been stranded in a semi-empty terminal building without communication. We have little children, women, and a few sick people, and we have no information apart from two handouts that were shared yesterday evening. It's almost 14 hours since we landed,” quoted another passenger from the flight.

Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured to support the people, and a special nodal officer has also been appointed who will be looking after the situation and mitigating the issue. Moreover, the Ministry of Civil Aviation is also monitoring the matter closely. Last year a flight operated by Air India flying from Delhi to Chicago faced emergency issues and had to be landed at priority. After the flight landed, it was found that the passengers had flushed plastic bags and polythene bags, which led to the clogging up of the drain. The issue had led to cogging of most of the lavatories which was challenging for the passengers.

After a preliminary investigation, the maintenance and technical crew cited that the passengers do not just use it for the purpose, but there are many different objects and elements are flushed in the lavatories, leading to a clogged drainage. The Air India maintenance crew has also found diapers and other objects in the fights previously, which can be highly challenging for the operations, and similar issues may be sustained in the future, disrupting the entire travel of the flights.

Operations and maintenance of the flights can be costworthy which might affect the entre travel of the passengers. Not just this, but the passengers may get to witness a higher fare, which is a direct response to the maintenance of the aircraft. Moreover, the operations of the flights may also get disrupted. There are special advisories given to the passengers before boarding the flight however, many passengers seem to disregard the matter leading to further challenges of the employees.
