5 Entrepreneurial Lessons You Can Learn from the Gym

Attain success as an entrepreneur by hitting the gym. Here's how!

5 Entrepreneurial Lessons You Can Learn from the Gym

Think about what motivates you to go to the gym day in and day out, even on the days when you’re not really feeling it. Then think about what keeps you at the gym. Is it a raw hunger to better yourself? Is it sheer will and determination? Those motivating factors are skills that can easily be transferred to other parts of your life, even ones that you probably wouldn’t think about. That sort of mental drive can push you forward in being an entrepreneur.

You Can Do It With the Right Mindset

Just getting to the gym is a big accomplishment in itself. Most people don’t go and when they do, they stop quickly because it’s hard and they don’t believe in themselves. These sorts of mental roadblocks are the same ones you’re going to face as an entrepreneur and that lack of confidence is why most people do not make it. If you can harness that determination that gets you to the gym and align yourself with it, it won’t matter what happens in your entrepreneurial pursuits because you’ll keep going. Each setback will become the backdrop to success.

Making it to the gym is only step one though. When you get there, do you push yourself out of your comfort zone? Do you do attempt things you think you can’t do or resign yourself to what you know? Limiting beliefs in your workout will impede your success and the same is true in limiting beliefs in your career. If you genuinely believe you will be unable to do it, you will be a self-fulfilling prophecy and not be able to do it.f you build up a maximum limit in your mind, you won’t ever be able to break out of it to do more and stifle your own business.

You Can Push Harder Than You Think

Sometimes in your workout, you surprise yourself. You went an extra rep when you thought your energy tank was depleted. You held that bar above your head for 30 more seconds when you thought you couldn’t. You ran that extra mile when you felt like you weren’t going to make it. You do these things because you are capable of doing them, you just thought you couldn’t.

Once you realize that your potential is limitless, apply this to all aspects of your life, including your career. Eliminate the word “can’t” entirely from your vocabulary and keep going because you are capable of doing anything. You are your own worst enemy and you cannot let your beliefs self-sabotage. Go the extra mile---in exercise and at your job!

You Can Expand Further With A Strong Core

Core exercises may not be your favorite, but they are by far the most important. Without a strong core, you are not going to be able to have a solid foundation for any of your other exercises and severely limit yourself. This applies to business as well Your core team, which might just be you at first and expand as your business expands, must be strong. If it isn’t, everything going further is going to an uphill battle.

Once you get a strong core and develop a methodology that works for you, everything comes much easier. This is true in the gym and this is true in business. Sets in the gym might be less shaky with a strong core or perhaps you find that it takes less strain to do an exercise. With a strong business core, anything you and your team encounter and any problems will take less concerted effort from yourself and your team to solve and move forward.

You Can Get There Day By Day

You didn’t just wake up with the athletic body that you have or gain muscles by going to the gym one time. You had to put months, maybe years into it and slowly progressed, day by day. Entrepreneurial pursuits are going to be the same thing. The day you decide this is what you want to do with your life is not going to be the day you find you're successful.

It may take years or even decades of grinding to achieve the success you want. The most important thing to do is to start. Every day that you are out there, giving it your very best effort, you are one day closer to achieving your goal. You just have to take it, whether it is the gym or your career, on a day by day basis, setting little goals for yourself along the way until you’re able to realize your greater dream.

You Can Be Patient

Some days you’ll be on that identical fourth set or be with that single same client and wonder if you’re progressing. It is easy to get discouraged, but you have to realign yourself to your goals and focus. It isn’t going to come easy and it isn’t going to come quick. Even though you keep pushing yourself, you might feel a plateau, but don’t push yourself too hard. While your potential is unlimited, your physical body and your mental state and business have present limits. These limits can constantly be expanded, but it has to be slow and steady, or else you will injure yourself or any progress you’ve made in your entrepreneurial career.

Your mindset is the single strongest determining factor in what you can achieve in your life. However, just like how you go to the gym and test your limits every day, you can start a career as an entrepreneur by testing your limits as well.

You will still have to put a lot of time and effort and labor into it, but once you’ve decided in your mind that you can do it and that nothing with stop you, you’ll become a force to be reckoned with. Everything you do will be steps towards achieving your goals and though it may never become easier, you’ll just keep getting stronger.
