A 42-Year-Old Employee with 2.5 Crore of Savings Narrates His Burnout Ordeal

Work-life Balance has become a mere combination of words, as it should allow total control of one's professional and personal life. Employees are always on the competitive front, for which they often sacrifice their personal life; however, in the case of an employee who took to Reddit to narrate his ordeal of how he feels empty even after having 2.5 crore in savings. He has also claimed that he feels burned out because of his 9-5 job.

The user in his post mentioned that "42M, never married, no dependents, parents passed away long ago. No plans of ever getting married. His current net worth is 2.5 crores INR (all in FDs). Do not own a house or a car. No debt. Had a brief stint in the US, which will give me around 1000 USD post-tax per month once I turn 62."

He also added, "I am completely exhausted and tired of this 9 to 5 and have developed some kind of chronic fatigue. Always stressed and always thinking of deadlines at work. Developed health problems and pretty much hate everything." The man spends roughly around 50,000 per month as a part of his living expenses, and he was also asking the users if this is the right time to retire. He also claimed that he does not belong to the tech industry, where switching roles and jobs is easier.

His question sparked a debate, where some users have suggested that early retirement can be a good option; however, after a certain point, he may feel structure and purposeless as prolonged inactivity of profession can lead to boredom and depression. While the other suggested he consider a sabbatical and rest for a while and travel so that he can prospect better about the future.

The user suggesting for Sabbatical commented, "Take sabbatical and figure out. I did this mistake of quitting 2.5 years ago. Believe me, you'll enjoy this retirement for a few months and then 'khaali dimaag shaitaan ka Ghar' wala scene hoga. Don't quit unless you find something you enjoy doing and can spend time in it. Being in a routine is very important, dude. I realised it when I had all the time in the world and nothing to do. It just messes up your brain."

Another user commented, "Why not take a job with lower pay, or work as free lance if you can, if you quit work all together, you will have to optimise your time accordingly. You're alone, and with an ample amount of time, what are you going to do, Think about that. "
