HBO has officially begun production on the new Harry Potter TV series at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, with Dominic McLaughlin starring as the iconic boy wizard. Premieres are expected in 2027.
A long-anticipated magical journey is finally taking shape as the Harry Potter television series has officially entered production at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK. The revelation came through HBO’s official Instagram handle, where they unveiled the first look at Dominic McLaughlin donning the iconic round glasses and Hogwarts uniform, bringing a youthful exuberance to the titular character.
McLaughlin is joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. This new trio was meticulously chosen from an immense pool of over 30,000 pirates who auditioned during last year’s wide-reaching casting call, according to Variety. Their chemistry is expected to invigorate the saga with renewed energy while honoring the beloved source material.
Fresh additions to the ensemble include Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, and Louise Brealey as the keen-eyed Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser stepping into the shoes of wandmaker Garrick Olivander. These nuanced choices hint at a deliberate approach to casting, one that blends fresh talent with seasoned performers.
The series is slated for grand debut in 2027, exclusively on HBO and HBO Max in applicable regions. It will be helmed by Francesca Gardiner as showrunner and acclaimed director Mark Mylod, known for Succession, who will oversee multiple episodes. Variety also confirmed that Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby will portray Petunia and Vernon Dursley, respectively.
