A Student Was Found Dead in KIIT Hostel Room. The Odisha Government Ordered A Probe

KIIT University was celebrating its Annual fest when the body of a 20-year-old 3rd year BE.tech student was found lying in the hostel room. Soon after, it led to a national issue where both levels of the embassy talked regarding safety leading to unease in the diplomat's country. Nepal also alleged that KIIT University did not take any proper accountability for the issue and made allegations of immense irresponsibility.

Prakrirti Lamsal belonged to Nepal and had come to KIIT University to study Engineering course. However, on Sunday afternoon, the student was found dead in the hostel. The police had registered a case of Suicide but protests raged after a mere tag by the police. Students from Nepal urged the college administration to take a step and set up an inquiry into the death. Despite multiple requests from Prakriti to intervene, the administration did not pay much attention to her.

Prakriti was subject to physical and mental abuse by her partner Advik Srivastava who was also a student in the same college. An audio clip recovered after the death of the victim belonged to Advik Srivastava who was heady abusing and objectifying a woman who was sobbing. She was asked to call herself a ‘sex worker’ in the call. Moreover, the male voice also manipulated the girl into apologizing. The audio clip has not been verified but might work as a piece of evidence.

Advik was arrested from Bhubaneshwar airport and is said to be a resident of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The body of the victim was sent to their parents after a detailed post-mortem at AIIMS Bhubaneshwar. The Father of the victim claimed "I had sent my daughter for higher studies, trusting that she would be safe. What happened here is unacceptable,"

It is also believed that the students were mishandled as they were protesting. The college is managed by the Biju Janta Dal, led by Achyuta Samanta. Instead of talking to the students, they used force to stop the protests which led to a chaotic situation. Security officials and college administrations had also helped in raging against the protesting students.

Videos circulated on social media where officials were seen attacking the students physically. Moreover, one of the authorities was also heard hurling against the cultures of Nepal and also stated that the GDP of Nepal is lower than the fees of KIIT. In an even more harrowing claim, the Nepali students were asked to leave the campus without any order even though the exams were approaching.

A statement from the University claimed that "The University is closed Sine Die for all the International students from Nepal. They are hereby directed to vacate the university campus immediately today on 17th February 2025,"
