Actor Huma Qureshi's Cousin Killed in Delhi Parking Dispute; No Communal Angle Suspected

Actor Huma Qureshi’s cousin brother, Asif Qureshi, was murdered after an altercation over a parking space in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area.

The incident occurred on Thursday at approximately 10 pm.

The altercation took place when Asif asked two men to park their scooter away from the main entrance of the house.

Although the men left, they promised to return.

“At around 9:30-10 pm, a neighbour parked a scooter right outside our house,” said Shaheen Asif Qureshi, wife of Asif Qureshi.

“My husband, Asif, requested him to move the vehicle away. The man abused Asif and threatened to come back,” Shaheen added.

“Within minutes, the man, along with his brother, came and stabbed Asif with a sharp weapon. I called Javed, my brother-in-law, but by the time he reached, Asif had lost a lot of blood and died,” Shaheen said.

Asif was rushed to the National Heart Institute in East of Kailash, where the doctors declared him dead.

The two accused have been identified as Ujjwal (19) and Gautam (18). Both brothers have been arrested. Gautam is reportedly a drug addict and is well known in the neighbourhood for his erratic behaviour and frequent involvement in fights in the neighbourhood.

CCTV footage of the scuffle has surfaced, showing the perpetrators attacking Asif as his wife attempted to intervene. Gautam was seen assaulting Asif with an ice pick he had in his possession.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

It’s unimaginable that a petty issue over parking could spiral into deadly violence. It is also a stark reminder of rising violence and barbarism increasing in our society.
