Actor Sonu Sood Honoured with the Special Humanitarian Award by UNDP

Actor Sonu Sood has been rightfully hailed the “Messiah for Migrants” for his humanitarian acts during the Pandemic. He has been bestowed with the SDG Special Humanitarian Action Award by the United Nations Development Programme.

Actor Sonu Sood has been rightfully hailed the “Messiah for Migrants” for his humanitarian acts during the Pandemic. 

The Department of planning of the Government of Punjab with the support of the Sustainable Development Goals Coordination Centre has conferred upon him the special humanitarian award. 

It was thought that the special humanitarian award was conferred upon him by UNDP however the UN body said: “The 'Special Humanitarian Action Award' given to Mr Sonu Sood was conferred on him by the Department of Planning of the Government of Punjab, with the support of the Sustainable Development Goals Coordination Centre. The awardees were selected based on the recommendation of an independent jury. UNDP was not involved in the selection nor in the conferring of the award to Mr Sonu Sood. We congratulate Mr Sood on receiving this award and appreciate his humanitarian efforts to help people in these challenging times.”

There is no denying the fact that the actor has made immense efforts in bringing relief to numerous people during the lockdown. 

He hired a plane and made sure that thousands of migrants reunited with their families while travelling comfortably from Kerala to Orissa. 

Sood had also hired buses to send workers in Mumbai back to their respective homes.  While speaking to Metro Life Sood said that he sent nearly 20,000 people back to their homes through a plane, train, and buses. He had named the initiative ‘Ghar Bhejo.’ 

Sonu Sood has made endless contributions when it comes to his philanthropic work during the lockdown and not only India but the world has also recognized his praise-worthy efforts.
