Actress Akshara Haasan Reaches Out to Cyber Cell in Connection With Her Leaked Private Photos

Kamal Haasan’s daughter Akshara Haasan has approached the cyber cell and the Mumbai Police to complain about her private photos that got leaked on social media. The actress was deeply upset and took to Twitter to express her frustration at the unfortunate incident. This is what the ‘Shamitabh’ actress had to say, “At a time when the nation has woken up to the #MeToo movement, there are still people out there who would harass and attempt to share private pictures of a young girl in the public eye only to derive some perverse pleasure that appeals only to them."

What is surprising about this incident is that it has come to light at a time when the #MeToo movement is at its peak in India which truly indicates that such global movements don’t perturb criminal minds. This incident, however, is not the first time when private moments and images of actors got leaked. Big names like Kareena Kapoor, Radhika Apte, Katrina Kaif and so on have been through similar unpleasant experiences in the past. Most of these actors filed police complaints and also claimed that the circulated photographs and MMS’ were morphed.

Reasons why private photos especially that of celebrities get leaked is either to cause controversial headlines, sensationalism or to derive some sadistic pleasure. Seeing one’s private photos being circulated in the big wide world of the internet is not a pleasant experience for the victim whatsoever. Akshara has expressed her deep concerns through this statement here:

Recently, some of my private pictures were leaked on the Internet. Who did this or why is not known to me yet. But what I do know that it is deeply unfortunate to make a young girl the victim of such an act only for a pervert mind’s enjoyment. And each time someone shares it with eye-catching headlines to draw more traction, it scars me deeper and adds to everyone’s participation in my harassment and helplessness.

It’s particularly disturbing and deeply upsetting to see that at a time when the nation has woken up to the #metoo movement, there are still people out there who would harass and attempt to share private pictures of a young girl in the public eye only to derive some perverse pleasure that appeals only to them. I have reached out to the mumbai police and the cyber cell to seek their help in tracking the person/s responsible for this leak and hope to get to the bottom of this soon. Till then, I can only request that we all learn to live and let live with dignity and privacy and hope that the internet won’t continue actively participating in my harassment. #metoo.

 

Akshara made her debut in the Indian Film Industry in 2015 with the comedy-drama ‘Shamitabh’ which starred Dhanush and had Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role. She made a special appearance in the movie Vivegam.  Akshara has also worked as an assistant director for the film ‘Society’ that starred her own mother Sarika. Currently, the actress stays with her mother in Mumbai.
