After Grand Funeral Ceremony, George Floyd is Laid to Rest in Texas

George Floyd has been finally laid to rest in Texas two weeks after his chilling death. The graphic video of his death triggered worldwide protests and the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement when a white officer knelt on his neck with his knee for nearly nine minutes.

Floyd begged the officer several times to release him, struggling to take his next breath, but to no avail. His last words were “Mama” and “Please, I can’t breathe” after which he lost his precious life.

The Houston church was packed with more than 500 mourners who were captured wearing masks. There were banners featuring pop art illustrations of Floyd wearing a baseball cap with a halo above it. George Floyd’s sister, brother and niece were also present at the ceremony.

Floyd’s brother Rodney said, “But everybody is going to remember him around the world. He is going to change the world.”

While delivering the main eulogy Rev. Al Sharpton a civil rights activist and television commentator described Floyd as “an ordinary brother” who left a legacy of greatness.

“God took the rejected stone and made him the cornerstone of a movement that is going to change the whole wide world”, Sharpton said. He further stated that Floyd touched the world at a time when there is a pandemic and people went to the streets protesting, disregarding social distancing rules.

Families of other black men who died in the hands of white police officers were also present. The mother of Eric Garner, a New York man who died in a police chokehold graced the ceremony.

A horse drawn chariot carried Floyd’s coffin in his last journey towards the cemetery in Pearland, Texas. He was buried next to his mother whose name he took last before passing away.
