After Starring in Umpteen Films, Tom Hanks Says “I’ve Made Four Pretty Good Movies”
Prolific Hollywood actor Tom Hanks is in the news for all good reasons. He’s penning down his first novel “The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece.”
Prolific Hollywood actor Tom Hanks is in the news for all good reasons. He’s penning down his first novel “The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece.”
The book will be published in May 2023. The actor is currently busy promoting his debut novel.
The upcoming novel is about the movie industry and the making of a multi-million dollar superhero action film and the comic that inspired it.
The novel is inspired by his own personal experiences in the movie industry.
"Every character in the book does something I've experienced while making a movie, as well as discovered a philosophy or learned an important lesson. Even the foolish moments are some kind of stunt I've pulled or mistake I've survived, " Mr Hanks told People magazine.
While in conversation with the outlet Hanks also said that in his vast career spanning more than 80 films, he ironically believes that only four movies were pretty good.
Of course! For any Tom Hanks fan this statement is hard to believe as the star has acted in some memorable movies since the eighties.
He told People magazine, “I’ve made a ton of movies — and four of them are pretty good, I think — and I’m still amazed at how films come together. From a flicker of an idea to the flickering image onscreen, the whole process is a miracle.”
We have to keep guessing the names though as the ‘Forrest Gump’ actor didn’t name the films.
We may have a clue though! When asked on Bill Simmon’s podcast about three of his favourite films Tom actor in November 2021 listed three movies based on his personal experiences and “not in the way the movies came out.”
He had listed ‘A League of Their Own', ‘Castaway’ and ‘Cloud Atlas’; as the movies in which he had the best experiences. The fourth flick still remains unknown.
His breakthrough films were Splash, Philadelphia where he played a gay lawyer suffering from AIDS, title character in Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Saving Private Ryan and the list goes on.
While speaking to the outlet, Tom said that “No one knows how a movie is made, though everyone thinks they do.”
“Movie-making is very hard work over a very long period of time that consists of so many moments of joy slapped up against an equal number of feelings of self-loathing,” he said. “It is the greatest job in the world and the most confounding of labors that I know of.”
The actor has created magic on the screen over the years with his acting skills and now it is time to witness the writer within him. Keeping fingers crossed.
