AI Kiran: Empowering Women to Lead in India’s AI Revolution

India has launched AI Kiran, a national movement to support and promote women leaders in Artificial Intelligence. This landmark is co-led by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India, Verix, and INK Women. It aims to build a more inclusive AI landscape by recognising and nurturing women who are shaping the future of technology.

India’s AI industry is booming and is set to reach $17 billion by 2027. Yet, the participation of women in this fast-growing field remains low. Especially in leadership roles. While women now outnumber men in STEM education, they make up only 33% of junior GenAI positions—and just 19% in senior roles. This gap shows the urgent need for inclusive and diverse leadership in AI to reduce bias and build fair, effective solutions.

AI Kiran stepped up to bridge this divide. This initiative has already spotlighted more than 250 outstanding women professionals. These trailblazers come from fields like education, healthcare, sustainability, and tech, bringing intersectional perspectives that drive meaningful AI innovations.

AI Kiran will collaborate with government departments, businesses, and non-profits to fund training, provide tutelage, and offer global divulgence to women in AI. It will also use Vertix’s blockchain platform for verified recognition, ensuring credibility and transparency.

Supported by partners like Aspire For Her, NASSCOM, Youth Ki Awaaz, SheTO, and AnitaB.org, the initiative aims to build a long-term ecosystem of support and elevation for women in AI.

This is not just a one-time project. AI Kiran is a growing movement built on collaboration, purpose, and shared goals. It’s about creating a future where women in technology don’t just participate—but lead.
