Aishwarya Rai wowed audiences at the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival in an ivory-coloured Kadwa Handloom Banarasi saree, designed by Indian designer Manish Malhotra.

The actress made her debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 2002 for the premiere of the film Devdas. She recreated the look twenty-three years later.

The actress looked radiant in the elegant, intricately woven white saree, paired with a tissue dupatta bordered with real gold and silver zardozi embroidery; an ode to India’s rich textile heritage.

For accessories, she wore a 500-carat Mozambique ruby and diamond choker, along with statement rings.

Her long, flowing hair was left loose with a centre parting. One subtle yet significant detail that drew widespread attention was the sindoor on her forehead. A symbolic gesture that many believe to be a nod to Operation Sindoor, a movement celebrating Indian womanhood and marital traditions!

Fashion critics, Indian audiences, and global fans alike applauded her choice of embracing an ethnic look rooted in cultural pride on a global platform.

From the craftsmanship of the saree to the symbolism of her accessories, every element of her look spoke volumes about her commitment to representing Indian culture with dignity and flair.

This year marks Aishwarya Rai’s 22nd appearance at the Cannes Film Festival. A testament to her enduring global appeal and iconic status on the red carpet!

Meanwhile, it was a historic day for Indian cinema at the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, premiered at the festival to widespread acclaim. The film, starring Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, Vishal Jethwa, and Reem Shaikh, received a nine-minute standing ovation from the international audience. It has garnered significant attention for its poignant storytelling and powerful performances. It was the only Indian feature film to be screened at the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
