Alok Nath - Alcoholic, Rapist, Oppressor - Where is the Sanskaari Man?

Just type Alok Nath in the Google Search Engine- the man’s true colors will flood your page. The “Sanskaari” man has been in the bulletins for “not so Sanskaari” reasons when Vinta Nanda dropped the bomb of rape charges on Alok Nath. Always playing idealistic next to god like roles in Bollywood cinemas and daily soaps, this man has been a veteran actor for many years.

As the #MeTooIndia movement gained its momentum and members of the industry were pleading to hear out the stories of more victims, came out the case of Alok Nath. Television producer and director Vinta Nanda has come up with charges of rape and sexual harassment on Alok whom she met in one of her shows Tara. As per reports, the incident happened 19 years back and finally, she opened up in a post on Facebook where she described the incident.

She started off by mentioning that apart from being a co-worker, Alok Nath was a family friend as Alok Nath’s wife was her best friend. She said that while she was working on the TV show Tara, Alok Nath was after the lead actress of the serial. The actress was not at all interested in him. In her post, Vinta described Alok as an alcoholic, obnoxious and shameless man who was one of the most popular television stars. As the lead actress complained about his misconduct, the team decided to let him go. One single shot was left and so the team decided once that is done, they will inform Alok Nath that they don’t wish to work with him anymore. Somehow, he got to know about it and he came drunk to the set. He continued drinking until he was called for the shot. As the shooting started, he fell upon the female lead viciously. In response, the actress slapped him. Immediately he was asked to leave the set.

As Vinta was in the mutual friend group, few friends intervened to patch up the cold relation between Vinta and Alok. In the meantime, even after the rating of the show was soaring, the management of the channel changed and asked to change the leading actress. There was confusion related to as all requested to change the decision. When that was done and the plot was changed a bit to start a fresh shoot, a day before there was this call from the management to bring back the lead actor who was earlier asked to leave. Under pressure of the situation, he was called back. But only after a week, Vinta as the director and writer of the show was called by the CEO and was humiliated and told that women like her should be thrown out of the country. The shows went off the air immediately and overnight her production company was shut down. This was the professional damage caused and now the time for all the personal damages.

As told by Vinta, she was a successful woman and loved her life. She was liberal in her lifestyle and often drank and smoke. She was called for a party in Alok Nath’s house. It was usual for her to go to such parties as there were more involved in her peer group. At that point of time, Alok Nath’s wife was not in town. In that party, she understood that her drinks were mixed as she was feeling strange. At around 2 am, she left his house. For her, it was unusual that no one offered a drop or followed her at that hour. She felt something was wrong. She started walking in spite of the fact her house was quite far. On the midway, Alok Nath came driving his car and she trusted her and sat in her. The memory after that was faint. She could remember that liquor was being poured in her mouth. She woke up the next morning in her own house and she was in pain.

She was raped and brutalized in her own house. She was advised by friends to move on. When she later started working, he made a route to threaten her by creating different situations. She began leaving her job of directing. She finally started the writing job in a show where Alok Nath played the main lead. She really needed to do the job and that’s why continued working when one day she was called by Alok Nath in his home and brutalized again. She had to quit then. Her career was at stake as she was mentally shaken after all these. She was in fear and shame and became addicted to alcohol and drugs. The trauma was there for 10 long years and finally today she is up here on the social media to speak about the so-called “Sansakaari Babuji”.

The Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) has issued a notice on the accused and asking his stand on the case. On the rape allegations, Alok said that he is neither admitting nor denying the allegations made by Vinta. He also said that people usually heat the side of the woman’s story as they are weak.

More actresses’ shocking revelation on Alok Nath

Himani Shivpuri who had been a co-star of Alok Nath in many movies said that it is an open secret that Alok Nath’s personality after having alcohol was Jekyll-Hyde. She mentioned that there were other actresses who accused that they are having a tough time working with him. She described one of his unruly behaviors which she encountered. They were in Dubai for ITA awards where he was drunk and his wife was extremely worried and disturbed. There was an incident where he was peeing openly in a flight and was deplaned for the misbehavior.

Navneet Nishan, the lead actress of Tara said that after slapping Alok Nath she had dealt with harassment for years.

Another anonymous female crewperson said that Alok Nath started to strip in front of her on the sets of Hum Saath Saath Hai.
