Assistant Director Speaks up for the First Time since Alec Baldwin Fatal Shooting

Assistant director David Halls is speaking out for the first time since the unfortunate shooting incident that took place on the sets of ‘Rush.’

He however did not bring up any details of the accident.

Speaking about the victim of the accident he said, “Halyna Hutchins was not just one of the most talented people I’ve worked with, but also a friend.”

Halls added that he’s been “overwhelmed by the love and support,” and said, “my thoughts are with all who knew and loved Halyna.

“I’m shocked and saddened by her death,” he said. “It’s my hope that this tragedy prompts the industry to reevaluate its values and practices to ensure no one is harmed through the creative process again.”

On October 21 armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed and first assistant director were responsible for checking the weapons on the set.

Director Joel Souza explained to the police that as per the safety protocols the armorer hands the gun to the assistant director who in turn has to check that there are no live rounds in the weapon before he hands it over to the actor.

On that fateful day three people handled the gun: Alec Baldwin, 24 year old armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and assistant director David Halls. This was Hannah’s second film.

During the rehearsal the live round fired by Baldwin passed through Halyna Hutchins’ body and finally hitting director Joel Souza’s shoulder.

David Halls told investigators that he wasn’t sure how thoroughly he checked the weapon. The actions of the armorer are also under scrutiny.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said that they are still investigating how the tragic shooting incident took place in New Mexico.
