Ayushman Khurrana Listed as One of the World’s 100 Most Influential People

‘Vicky Donor’ star Ayushman Khurrana is on a roll as his name has been listed as one of the world’s 100 most influential people by Time Magazine.

He shares the honours with PM Narendra Modi and Google CEO Sundar Pichai. He is the only actor to have been featured in this year’s Time’s 100 Most Influential People’s list. Actress Deepika Padukone was featured on this list last year.

On being bestowed with the honour, Ayushman wrote, “TIME’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in the world is out, I’m honored to be a part of this group: time.com/time100 @TIME #TIME100.”

He said, “I’m truly humbled with the recognition that TIME has bestowed on me. As an artiste, I have only looked to contribute towards bringing a positive change in society through cinema and this moment is a huge validation of my belief system and my journey. I have always believed that cinema has the power to bring about change by triggering the right conversations among people and society. Hopefully, through my content choices, I have been able to contribute towards my country and countrymen.”

The actor rightly deserves this award as he has made great attempts to make a change in our thinking and perceptions with the kind of content he’s touched upon in his movies.

His first movie ‘Vicky Donor’ where he plays a sperm donor, explores the topic of infertility which is still considered a taboo subject in many sections of our society. The actor was brave enough to take up an offbeat subject for his first movie which is commendable. Not many actors would have taken that step. To top it all, the movie surprisingly resonated with the masses and it commercially performed very well.

Unlike his previous comedy streaked roles, he took up a dark and intense character in the film ‘Article 15.’ The film was inspired by notable events such as the 2014 Badaun gang-rape allegations and the 2016 Una flogging incident.

The film ‘Bala’ brings out the struggles of a young man in a society who is suffering from premature balding whereas in ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’ Khurrana plays a gay man who struggles to convince his partner’s family of their relationship.

From playing a sperm donor, a bald man suffering from confidence issues to being gay. Ayushman Khurrana has done it all! Through meaningful cinema, as a platform, he has worked on topics that affect today’s youth in some form or the other especially men.

With Feminism and numerous women platforms actively coming into existence, we are well aware of the issues that plague women albeit we still may not be enlightened enough about the issues that affect men.

Through his movies, Ayushman has raised some of the issues that affect men, challenged male stereotypes, made an impact through his acting, raised conversations on ‘under-the-carpet’ subjects, and changed perceptions for the better. Kudos to the actor who has dawned many hats in a short span and made an impact through his strength which is acting!
