Battle of Wives: Jemima to Take Legal Action against Reham

The war between the two former wives of Pakistan’s cricketer turned politician Imran Khan is underway as he is preparing himself to attempt to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan as general elections in Pakistan are scheduled this July 25th. As the war over the book by his second wife Reham Khan continues, Imran Khan’s first wife Jemima Khan has threatened a legal action against his second wife Reham Khan as she is up to release an “explosive” tell-all book about their ex-husband Imran Khan in the UK.

44-year-old Jemima is the daughter of the late billionaire businessman, Sir James Goldsmith. London based Jemima has divorced Imran in 2004 after nine years of their marriage. The couple has two sons Sulaiman and Qasim.

Even after their separation Jemima never spoke ill about her 65-year-old ex-husband and remained loyal to the relationship and in some occasion raised her voice when he was in distress. As for example when he was imprisoned in 2017 though for a brief period of time she took to protest. On the other hand, 45-year-old Reham, who divorced Imran in 2015 after their marriage of 10 months, has time and again said in various forums that she wants to reveal the real man behind Imran.

This time Jemima took to social media to take on Reham against publication of the book in the UK. She wrote, “On Reham Khan's book I've been assured that it's too libelous to be published in the UK but if it is published here, I will be suing for defamation & breach of privacy on behalf of my (then) 16 yr. old son & in relation to the moronic, re-hashed Zionist conspiracy theories. Sigh”.

Though the contents of Reham’s book are not yet publicly revealed in any form. But she had commented over Jemima’s warning, saying “I am very proud of being a self-made woman who has never had to even touch my parents' inheritance or sponge of my spouses or friends. I also like the fact that I have stood up to bullies all my life. There is nothing dignified in being forced to be silent”.

Though in the past, during an interview with a Television Channel, Reham has said her book contains some allegations such as sexual favors were used to gain ranks in Imran’s Political Party, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI), “I have discussed sexual harassment, sexual coercion and how it is used. How sexual favors are used for political positions and media positions. And some of those (allegations) relate directly to PTI. The main thrust of the book is how we as individuals, journalists, informed people of the media, people with an interest in politics... don't really know what we're voting for”.

Apart from Jemima's warning, Reham is surrounded by people who are threatening her with legal consequences if the book is out, which include notices from her former husband Dr. Ijaz Rehman and Pakistani Cricketer Wasim Akram. While in Pakistan, a civil court in Punjab’s Multan has issued a stay warrant against the publication and release of the book and a notice has been served to Reham to reply by 9th June.
