Bengali actor Aindrila Sharma died on Sunday at 12.59 pm after a week-long battle for life following a brain stroke, her family said. She was 24 and survived by her parents and an elder sister.

She was a cancer survivor who defeated the disease twice. She was recently declared cancer-free by the doctors and made her acting comeback too. The actress was hospitalized on November 1 after suffering a massive brain stroke.

Aindrila Sharma was first diagnosed with bone marrow cancer when she was just a teenager. After Aindrila completed the chemotherapy, she continued her studies. Daily soap Jhumur marked her debut in the world of entertainment. She went on to star in Bengali television shows like Jiyon Kathi, Jiban Jyoti, and Mahapeeth Tarapeeth.

In February 2021, Aindrila was diagnosed with cancer for the second time. She was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in her lung. Aindrila won the battle against cancer for the second time and doctors declared her cancer-free a few months back. The young actor enjoyed a huge fan base for her fighting spirit

Aindrila Sharma was honored with an award for her comeback despite all the struggles. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee praised Aindrila while handing over the award.

"She underwent critical surgery, and a biopsy showed that she was having brain metastases. She was treated by a team of neurosurgeon, neurologist, critical care specialist, infectious disease specialist, medical oncologist, and radiation oncologist," the hospital said.

"But, unfortunately despite our best efforts she suffered cardiac arrest today and she succumbed to the dreaded disease," said in a statement.

On Aindrila's demise, Mamata Banerjee tweeted, "Deeply saddened at the untimely demise of our young artiste Aindrila Sharma. The talented actress won several accolades including the Tele Samman Award. My deepest condolences to her family, fans & friends. I pray they find the courage in this hour of grief."
