Beyonce has created headlines for becoming the first African American woman on the September issue cover of Vogue magazine. Read to know more.

It was revealed that the singer would have complete hold of Vogue’s September cover which includes the captions, a self-authored essay, and pictures. In Vogue’s September issue, which is considered very important, the singer has written and opened up about various issues that she struggled with in her life’s journey.

The ‘Halo’ singer revealed that she followed society’s general norms about how her body should look like after she gave birth to her first child. She put pressure on herself to lose all the weight in just three months after she gave birth to her first child. To ensure, she lost weight, she even scheduled a small tour. Now, when Beyonce looks back, she thinks it was a crazy idea.

In another major revelation, she revealed that she and her twins’ health were at risk when she was pregnant. She was diagnosed with preeclampsia, due to which she had to go in for an emergency C-section. It was a major surgery and she was on ‘survival mode.’ Yet she discovered the seriousness of her health condition only months later. The experience transformed her life and notions completely. Looking back at those moments, Beyonce says “she’s been through hell and back.”

Appreciating and accepting her body

After the surgery, Beyonce accepted her curvier body and broke society’s norms to look thinner. The singer gave up coffee, alcohol and fruit drinks and ensured that she gave herself enough self-care both physically and emotionally. The singer turned a vegan on a temporary basis. The ‘Crazy in love’ singer emphasized on the idea, that men and women should accept and appreciate the beauty in their natural bodies. She said “To this day my arms, shoulders, breasts, and thighs are fuller. I have a little mommy pouch, and I’m in no rush to get rid of it. I think it’s real.” Even for Vogue’s shoot, Beyonce has decided to go with minimal make-up.”

The singer reveals that when she started out she was told that it would be difficult for her to come onto the covers of magazines as she was black. Clearly, that was a myth. The singer has recruited 23-year-old Tyler Mitchell who has gone to become the first black photographer to shoot a Vogue cover. Beyonce has been photographed by Tyler for the Vogue shoot. The singer is opening up avenues for young black artists and providing them with platforms to prove themselves. "If people in powerful positions continue to hire and cast only people who look like them, sound like them, come from the same neighborhoods they grew up in, they will never have a greater understanding of experiences different from their own”, she said. The artist added, “Everyone has a say. Everyone’s voice counts, and everyone has a chance to paint the world from their own perspective.”

Ancestry

While the Grammy award-winning artist researched her ancestral history, she discovered that she descends from “a slave owner who fell in love with and married a slave.” The singer had to process this revelation and it took time to put things into perspective. She said that she comes from a lineage of broken male and female relationships and believes this was the reason she was blessed with twins. “Male and female was able to coexist and grow in my blood for the first time.” Albeit, the singer hopes that her children will have lesser complicated lives than her ancestral generations. The singer spoke of her rich experiences in Coachella and On the Run II Tour.

The talented artist is in a place of gratitude and explains that she’s worked hard enough to surround herself with what inspires and fulfills her. Kudos to this dynamic woman and her powerful words.
