Black Panther, an All Black Movie Smashes Box office Records grossing $235 Million

Hollywood will have to relook at the work it gives black filmmakers and actors as Black Panther smashed all box office records. This movie has become a sensation all over the world thus creating a precedent in being an all black movie to break President’ day record with a $235 million debut.

This marvel hero has created waves even before it could hit the theater. The movie has an African-American as the main character has caught the attention all moviegoers irrespective of their color, creed or religion.

Going by the record Black panther is creating it may not be long before we hear Disney announcing a sequel of the movie. It will also set the ball rolling for more all black action movies. After setting a record of $192 million weekend sales and also crossing Disney’s forecast during the four-day box-office showing, this Marvel blockbuster is on fire.

Disney had predicted $210million sales projection which they had revised from $198 million. Box office mojo had predicted $212 million.

All this success in spite of the fact the  superhero is the least known and least popular of all  the Marvel superheroes. T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), its protagonist, gets some unearthly abilities from drinking the juice of a plant, but I can’t tell you what they are really, and the movie is delightfully uninterested in exploring them. T’Challa rules over an African country called Wakanda that possesses the most advanced technology in the world which they have kept a secret.

The wakandas had in their possession a meteorite made of  vibranium,an alien element which landed there in prehistoric times and the Wakandans somehow managed to use it for their benefit in amazing ways. They could fuse it  into  their clothing and body tissue for super-strength.

Wakanda was the richest country in the world but the people portrayed it as the poorest country in order to keep themselves safe from colonial powers and slave traders. The crux of the movie is whether Wakanda can survive its isolation in the 21st century.

The other cool part  about the movie is the villain played by Michael B. Jordan. He is  the best Marvel villain created. He’s a mysterious smuggler called Erik Killmonger who has a hidden connection to Wakanda. Killmonger uses extremism in his bid to take on T’Challa which is personal and pursue black power. He has the best dialogues and the most powerful arguments.

“ Black Panther” is a blockbuster and so is its soundtrack. It had an opening at No. 1 on the Billboard chart. The soundtrack features Mr. Lamar, the Weeknd, SZA, Khalid and James Blake. It was put together by Kendrick Lamar.
