Blast near Syrian Turkish Border Kills 39 People

A blast in Syria has killed at least 39 people including 12 children. The blast has brought down a building in the Sarmada town near the Turkish border and now rescue forces are working to save any trapped victims.

The building that was ripped apart by the blast is said to have had munitions belonging to an arms trafficker. The explosion took place at the bottom of the building that was located in Baba-al-Hawa Square. The people who have been killed include innocent children and women. Dozens of people are reportedly missing.

On Sunday, the rescuers in Sarmada have used bulldozers to pull out trapped people. A Syrian volunteer force called ‘White Helmets’ have said that they have rescued ten people so far. The rescuers are working tirelessly searching out for more people who may be trapped under the large piles of rubble. The number of people who have been killed could also be higher. The building is said to have housed numerous people, most of them belonging to Jihadist fighters who have been driven out from other areas of Syria. As of now, the manner the explosion took place or who is responsible for it is not known.

The ‘White Helmets’ volunteer force was founded in the late 2012 and early 2013. The group aims to rescue civilians when any explosion or attacks occur. The group has worked in rescuing innocent civilians in the opposition-held parts of Syria throughout the seven-year-old Syrian civil war. Yet, they are considered a terrorist group by the Russian and Syrian armed forces.

The Syrian armed forces have made great progress in occupying some of the major areas held by the rebels and Jihadi groups. Russia and Iran are two prominent countries, who are not leaving any stone unturned to ensure that the Syrian Government doesn’t fall. On the other hand, the rebels seem to be weakening and getting battered.

What started out as a peaceful protest against Bashar Al Asad’s government demanding democratic reforms has now turned into one of the deadliest wars the world has ever witnessed. A war where even powerful countries like Russia, Iran, America, Israel and Turkey are involved. The groups that have been involved in the seven-year-old civil war are Bashar Al Asad’s s armed forces, the Kurds up in the north, the rebels, and the Jihadists. Looks like the Syrian war is only getting bloody and messier by the day with all the conflicting ideologies of the allies. Sadly, the severely affected people are civilians who are innocent victims of a treacherous proxy war.
