Blessed Carlo Acutis Will be The First Millenial to Be Canonised in Vatican

Pope Francis announced the canonization of Carlo Acutis, who will become the Catholic Church's first millennial saint.

Carlo Acutis has been rightly dubbed as the “Saint of the Internet Age” and “God’s Influencer.” His contributions to spreading the faith through digital means and his deep commitment to the Eucharist have made him a modern symbol of holiness for young people today.

Carlo Acutis used his computer skills to spread the message of Catholicism across the world. He died of leukaemia in 2006. He was only 15.

He was beatified after a Brazilian boy was cured of a serious birth defect. The boy couldn’t keep food down. After he received a relic from Carlo’s mother and prayed to him, his condition was cured.

Another miracle was attributed to Carlo Acutis’ intercession.

In 2022, a young Costa Rican girl suffered serious head injury, after falling off a bike in Florence, Italy. Her condition was serious and there were less chances to recover.

The girl’s mother then visited Carlo Acutis’s tomb in Assisi. Her daughter exhibited improvement the very same day.

Earlier this year, the pope approved the second miracle. The news confirming Carlo Acutis’s sainthood was announced by Pope Francis in his weekly audience on Wednesday.

Carlo had a remarkable ability to inspire those around him. He was born to Italian parents in London, however, his family soon moved to Milan, Italy.

He received his First Holy Communion at the age of seven which paved the path of love for his faith. He deeply believed that the Eucharist, the central sacrament of the church, was the “highway to heaven.” The teenager believed that through the Eucharist people can experience a profound connection to God.

Carlo was a programmer and used his skills to create a website that was dedicated to showcase Eucharistic miracles from around the world. The website which he created at the age of fourteen attracted a lot of followers. Besides being a computer programmer, he enjoyed playing video games, and created websites for local parishes.

Blessed Carlo Acutis will be canonised during the Jubilee of Adolescents at the Vatican on the weekend of 25-27 April next year.
