BMC Declares Citywide Water Suspension for Major Pipeline Overhaul on December 12–13
BMC will impose a 24-hour water cut across several Mumbai wards on Dec 12–13 for major pipeline upgrades. Multiple areas will face full or low-pressure supply; residents must store and use water wisely.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proclaimed a 24-hour comprehensive water suspension on December 12 and 13 across multiple neighbourhoods as part of an extensive, city-scale pipeline integration initiative. This temporary disruption will affect several sectors across the K/East, H/East, and G/North wards, including expansive belts of Andheri, Jogeshwari, Vile Parle, Santacruz, Bandra, and the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), Dadar, and Mahim.
BMC authorities stated that engineering teams will undertake large-scale infrastructural rectification from 9 a.m. on Friday, December 12, until 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 13. According to the official communiqué, the shutdown is inevitable because technicians will be engaged in revamping significant conduits, including the 1,800 mm Tansa West main, the 1,200 mm line, the 2,400 mm Vaitarna trunk, and a 1,500 mm pipeline situated within the G/North ward.
During this operation, the water supply will experience complete cessation in numerous pockets, while specific parts of the K/East ward will only receive diminished-pressure distribution. The suspension on December 13 will further extend to Om Nagar, Kanti Nagar, Rajasthan Nagar, Sahar Village, and Sutar Pakhadi, intensifying the temporary scarcity.
H/East Ward Impact (Santacruz, Bandra East, BKC)
The H/East ward is also slated for a two-day hydraulic disruption, beginning with a total halt in the Bandra–Kurla Complex and Motilal Nagar on December 12.
On December 13, additional localities-Prabhat Colony, the southern flank of CST Road, Yashwant Nagar, Sunder Nagar, Golibar Road to Kherwadi, Behram Nagar, Government Colony, and Bandra (East)- will also face supply interruptions.
Civic Advisory to Residents
The BMC has appealed to all residents in the affected zones to accumulate sufficient reserves and adopt prudent utilisation throughout the period of hydraulic maintenance. Officials have further recommended boiling and filtering water for a few days after the repairs conclude, and have urged citizens to maintain co-operation to ensure smooth execution of the overhaul.
