Bodies Found Hanging inside a Home in Delhi’s Burari Village Leave Citizens Shocked

In one of the most ghastly incidents of recent times, eleven members of the Bhatia family were found dead inside a house in Delhi’s Burari village on Sunday morning. Ten bodies were found blindfolded and hanging while the body of a 75-year-old lady was found on the floor. An investigation is underway and all possible angles are being looked into.

According to NDTV, one of the neighbors went to check in on the family when their shop did not open until 7:30 am on Sunday. The Bhatia family ran a plywood and grocery business from their two-storeyed building. The neighbor Gurucharan Singh knocked on the door which was ajar. But as he entered, to his horror he discovered dead bodies inside the home. The neighbors were immediately alerted and the police were informed at 7:30 am. The family included a 77-year-old woman, her two sons, their wives, a daughter, and five grandchildren.

They were found hanging from an iron grill and their eyes were blindfolded by cotton and pieces of cloth. The bodies were found facing each other and their hands and legs were tied in a room on the first floor. Only their pet dog was found alive on the terrace. The Police suspect this to be a mass suicide based on their initial investigation, though the surviving relatives suspect this to be a murder.

Lalit ran a plywood business while Bhavnesh took care of the grocery store. Locals and neighbors say that the family were religious and would pray thrice a day. "They were busy with wedding preparations. Both brothers were friendly. They couldn't have committed suicide. I spoke to Bhavnesh last night. He was very happy and there was no sign of any stress," said a neighbor. There was no discord among the family members too.

Discovery of handwritten notes and mystical practices

On searching the house the police have discovered “observance of some definite spiritual or mystical practices by the whole family.” Investigators said that the manner in which the eyes, mouth etc of the bodies were tied and taped have some connection and similarity to the handwritten notes. The notes, however, were not suicide notes. A diary which has been found to indicate that they could meet God if all the members of the family ended their lives in a similar manner.

According to DNA, the family started making entries in the diary in December while the last entry was made on June 26. The “date” however to meet God was decided on June 30. There were no signs of forced entry into the house and no bullet marks on the deceased bodies. Surviving relatives claim this case to be a murder. “No father can kill his own son,” Arjun Thukral said. “How would a mother be able to kill her own children? I don't think they committed suicide. These are murders.”

A daughter who lives in Panipat stated that this is a case of a pre-planned murder. A case of murder has been registered and the post-mortem will be conducted by a board at Maulana Azad Medical College on Monday. This is a one-of-a-kind case that has not only left locals but also people worldwide stunned.
