Brad Pitt Announces Retirement from Hollywood; Said He Battled Low Grade Depression

Famous Hollywood actor Brad Pitt who has entertained us over the years with films like Troy, The Departed and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood has   dropped a shocker concerning his  movie career. He is planning to retire from Hollywood.

Though he hasn’t given an exact time frame of his retirement he is considering the current times as his “last leg” in the industry.

During an interview with GQ magazine, the actor revealed, “I consider myself on my last leg. This last semester or trimester. What is this section gonna be? And how do I wanna design that?... I’m one of those creatures that speaks through art. I just want to always make. If I’m not making, I’m dying in some way.”

In the interview he also revealed that he had been suffering low grade depression over the years and only by embracing this dark side of his personality, he was able to experience moments of joy.

“I think joy’s been a newer discovery, later in life… I was always moving with the currents, drifting in a way, and onto the next…I think I spent years with a low-grade depression, and it’s not until coming to terms with that, trying to embrace all sides of self – the beauty and the ugly –that I’ve been able to catch those moments of joy,” Brad said.

It may also come as a surprise to many that despite being a popular star in the movie industry, the actor always felt alone.

He further added, “I always felt very alone in my life. Alone growing up as a kid, alone even out here, and it’s really not till recently that I have had a greater embrace of my friends and family.” He believes that “all our hearts are broken” and he’s always on the quest for meaning.

His perspective towards life changed to a large degree after the Covid- 19 pandemic. Brad finds solace in music as it brings him so much joy. During the onset of the pandemic, the actor took a liking for the guitar. Now, he rises early to strum his guitar in the living room close to the fireplace.

After his much publicised split with Angelina Jolie in 2016, Brad began focussing on his health. He gave up alcohol and enrolled himself into Alcoholics Anonymous which was more of a private group. During the pandemic he even cut out cigarettes completely.

Brad Pitt has become increasingly selective about the movies he appears in. In contrast to previous years, he’s less seen on the silver screen and looks like he’s taking the role of a producer more seriously.

His production company Plan B is doing fabulous work when it comes to creating interesting projects. They are working on a biographical on Marilyn Monroe’s mysterious life through author Joyce Carol Oates perspective. The film ‘Blonde’ featuring Ana De Armas will be directed by Andrew Dominik and seems to be promising.

Another project, ‘Women Talking’, is based on an adaptation of Miriam Toews’s novel which is about a group of women who unite against their rapists.

According to Pitt, ““It’s as profound a film as anything made this decade.”

Coming to his personal life, Brad has sued Angelina for the sale of her shares in the wine business they co-owned.

His upcoming action comedy film ‘Bullet Train’ in which he plays an assassin will be released on August 5.

Director Quentin Tarantino summed up the actor rightly in these words, “ “It’s just a different breed of man. And frankly, I don’t think you can describe exactly what that is because it’s like describing starshine.”
