British PM Boris Johnson and His Girlfriend Carrie Symonds are Expecting Baby

Last Saturday British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his girlfriend Carrie Symonds has formally announced that they are expecting a baby and both have got engaged.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the couple released a statement to Media saying, "The Prime Minister and Miss Symonds are very pleased to announce their engagement and that they are expecting a baby in the early summer."

On her Instagram post, Symonds also shared the announcement along with an intimate photo of her with Johnson. She also wrote, "Many of you already know but for my friends that still don't, we got engaged at the end of last year... and we've got a baby hatching early summer".

55-year-old Boris Johnson is twice married. After his split from his wife of 26 years in 2018, he has been publicly dating 31-year-old Symonds since last year. The British leader took office followed by an emphatic victory in the country's general election last summer. 

Boris Johnson will become the first Prime Minister of the United Kingdom to wed while in office for 250 years. The couple also made history as the first unmarried couple to hold the Prime Minister's official residence in London.

Sajid Javid, who quit the British cabinet earlier this month as the finance minister of the country after a falling out with Johnson, congratulated the couple on Twitter, calling it a "wonderful news".

Carrie Symonds, who is associated with the Conservative party as spin doctor is sarcastically dubbed as Britain's "first girlfriend". But she has kept a very low profile ever since she has moved to Downing Street with Johnson in July last year.

Even during Johnson’s general election campaign, she was hardly visible alongside Johnson, though she chooses to canvas for ruling Conservative Party candidates separately.

Symonds is an avid environmental campaigner, she has previously worked on Johnson's re-election campaign as London mayor in the year 2012, before becoming the Tories' director of communications.

After which she worked for an ocean conservation charity. Symonds also lived with Johnson for a short time in a south London flat last year before he took power.

The last sitting British Prime Minister and his spouse to have a baby while in office was David and Samantha Cameron, who welcomed Florence Rose Endellion into their family in the year 2010.

From his second marriage to Marina Wheeler, Johnson already has four children. His eldest daughter is only five years younger to Symonds. It was announced that his divorce with Wheeler, who is a lawyer has reached a financial agreement earlier this month.

Johnson also has a daughter resulting from a 2009 fling. During a court battle relating to that birth, it was alleged that he had another child out of wedlock, but it is still unclear and Johnson has refused to comment on this issue.
