Bruce Willis Diagnosed with Untreatable Dementia; Family Releases Official Statement

Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with untreatable Dementia. This news was released by the actor’s family in an official statement on Thursday.

The action star retired from acting last year as his cognitive functions were beginning to decline.

He was first diagnosed with Aphasia in 2022 which later progressed into Frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

Frontotemporal Dementia is a type of dementia that affects the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. It is caused due to clumps of abnormal protein inside brain cells. This is believed to damage the brain cells.

“Since we announced Bruce's diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce's condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia,” a statement said.

"Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces," the family statement said. "While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.

"Today there are no treatments for the disease, a reality that we hope can change in the years ahead."

"We know in our hearts that - if he could today - he would want to respond by bringing global attention and a connectedness with those who are also dealing with this debilitating disease and how it impacts so many individuals and their families."

The family statement was signed by Willis' current wife, Emma Heming Willis, as well as his former wife, actress Demi Moore and children Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel and Evelyn.

Bruce shot to fame starring in a leading role in the comedy drama series ‘Moonlighting.’

He rose to stardom after he portrayed John McClane in Die Hard films that earned him recognition as an action hero. All the films from the ‘Die Hard’ franchise were box office hits.

He featured in numerous Hollywood films such as Armageddon, The Sixth Sense , Perfect Stranger, The Expendables, Ocean’s Twelve and so on that performed successfully.

His appearance in the famous sitcom Friends in 2000 earned him a third Emmy nomination.
