Bulgarian Tennis Player Grigor Dimitrov Tests Positive for Coronavirus

World number 19 Tennis Champion Grigor Dimitrov has been tested positive for Coronavirus.

The Bulgarian, 29, had played in both of Novak Djokovic's recent Adria Tour events. He withdrew from the second tournament in Zadar, Croatia after he was tested positive.

He posted on Instagram, “I want to reach out and let my fans and friends know that I tested positive back in Monaco for Covid-19.”

He also advised his fans whoever came in contact with him to get tested and take the necessary precautions. “I am so sorry for any harm I might have caused,” he said.

“I am back home and now recovering. Thanks for your support and please stay safe and healthy. GD”, he concluded.

The tournaments were set up by world champion Djokovic to help players get back to fitness because of the long break due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Other players who were competing were Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, and Dominic Thiem.

The first event was held in Serbia. The players were not compelled to follow social distant rules and were seen embracing each other with Serbia and Croatia easing lockdown rules.

Earlier pictures circulating on social media show Grigor Dimitrov hanging out with other players while playing basketball. He was pretty much in close contact with other players over the last two weeks during the tour.

Event director Goran Ivanisevic told fans that the finals on Sunday were cancelled because of Dimitrov’s positive test. It would have featured world champion Djokovic. The precautionary measure has been taken to protect other participants.
