In a twist of events in the Zomato delivery case in Bengaluru, a case has been booked against model and influencer Hitesha Chandranee after a complaint by Zomato delivery man Kamraj.
She has been accused of wrongful restraint, assault, intentional insult, and criminal intimidation.
Hitesha had earlier shared a video on social media that had gone viral. In the video, she stated that she placed an order through Zomato and apparently the food arrived late. She placed the order at 3:30 pm. The order was to arrive at 4:30 however it arrived beyond the expected time.
Following this, she called the Zomato customer service requesting them to cancel the order or give her a free delivery.
“And then the Zomato delivery guy came here. He was so rude... I didn't open the full door, I spoke to him from a gap in the door and told him am talking to the customer care... I told him I don’t want the order since it was very late. But he refused to take the order and started screaming, 'bloody I am your slave or what'... It felt so threatening, I got scared and I tried to push the door. But he was so huge; he pushed back the door, snatched the order back from me and punched me. Then he ran away...” she explained in the video.
Now Kamraj who is released on bail gave a different version of the story. Kamraj explained to NDTV that it was she who had verbally abused him, threw shoes at him, and hurt herself in the bargain.
Hitesha however said that he was rude first.
“It was my reaction out of fear. I panicked. It was in the heat of the moment, it was not intentional,” she had told NDTV.
Zomato who had earlier assured Hitesha of all medical support has now extended their support to Kamraj and are in constant touch with him too.
Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal posted a statement on Twitter saying that the Zomato team is helping both the parties and their “topmost priority” is to get the truth out.
“As per protocol, we have temporarily suspended Kamraj from active deliveries, but are covering his earnings in the interim while there’s an active police investigation. We are also covering his legal expenses pertaining to the case”, said the statement.
Investigations pertaining to this case are still underway.
