Center to Probe Investigation on Anna Sebastian's Death after She Dies of Work Pressure

Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje ordered a probe into the death of 26-year-old Anna Sebastian working for Ernst and Young in Pune. Karandlaje in her X post wrote “Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Anna Sebastian Perayil. A thorough investigation into the allegations of an unsafe and exploitative work environment is underway. We are committed to ensuring justice & @LabourMinistry has officially taken up the complaint,”

Anna Sebastian was working as an accountant at Ernst and Young who died because of immense work pressure from the company. She joined the firm 4 months back in March. However, her career took a tragic turn reminding the importance of a safe and healthy workplace. 

Her mother Augustine Sebastian claimed that an exploitive workplace was one of the primary reasons behind the death of the daughter. She also claimed that initially, nobody from the company had come to her funeral. 

EY stated that they are extremely affected because of the death of their employee and they will constantly be in contact with her parents for any form of help. They further assured to improve the working conditions within the processes so that employee well-being could be improved. 

A statement from EY read, "Anna was a part of the Audit team at S R Batliboi, a member firm of EY Global, in Pune for a brief period of four months, joining the firm on 18 March 2024. That her promising career was cut short in this tragic manner is an irreparable loss for all of us,"
